, Oct. 8, 2015 — Changes women can make to help lower their risk of getting breast cancer will be the topic of the HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley's monthly Seniors Health & Wellness Breakfast Club at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 21.
The free breakfast club, open to the public, meets in the Community Room of the Hudson Valley Mall, 1300 Ulster Ave. in Kingston, from 8:30 to 10 a.m. on the third Wednesday of every month. No RSVP is needed.
Attendees receive a delicious heart-healthy breakfast in addition to entertaining demonstrations and lively discussions with health and wellness experts.
On Oct. 21, Ellen Marshall, director of the HealthAlliance Oncology Support Program, will talk about modifiable risk factors for breast cancer, which are lifestyle changes women can make. By contrast, non-modifiable risk factors are factors they can't change, such as their age, race or family history.
"The presence of factors does not mean cancer is inevitable," Marshall says. "Many women with risk factors never develop breast cancer. But risk factors simply help identify women who may benefit most from screening or other preventive measures."
