KINGSTON, N.Y. (November 3, 2016) — Dr. Michael Moscowitz, the son of longtime Kingston orthopedic surgeon Dr. Richard Moscowitz, has joined HealthAlliance Hospital: Broadway Campus in Kingston, a member of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth), as a general surgeon.
"It's good to be back," said the younger Moscowitz, 31, who was born in Kingston, went to Kingston High School and studied medicine and surgery at Chicago Medical School. He did his general surgery residency at New Jersey's Morristown Medical Center.
HealthAlliance Chief Medical Officer Dr. Paul Llobet said he was pleased "such a highly trained general surgeon has returned to Kingston to serve his hometown community."
"General surgeons are the backbone of community hospitals," Llobet said. "They evaluate and treat a broad spectrum of diseases that may require surgical treatment. In his brief period here, Dr. Moscowitz has shown himself to be a leader in his discipline, widely recognized for his expert performance of complex procedures with safety and first-rate outcomes."
Llobet added: "Dr. Moscowitz is a highly skilled and dedicated surgeon, experienced in a wide range of procedures, from traditional open surgery to innovative, minimally invasive techniques. He has made compassionate, patient-centered care his touchstone. And his goal is getting patients back to their regular, daily activities as quickly as possible. We at HealthAlliance Hospital are proud to have him on our surgical team."
As a HealthAlliance general surgeon, Moscowitz focuses on the abdomen and its contents, including the stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, pancreas, gallbladder and bile ducts. He also deals with diseases involving the skin, breast and soft tissue, hernias and peripheral vascular surgery, as well as trauma and emergency surgery.
Moscowitz's wife of six years, Kara, also 31, is from Saugerties. She's a registered nurse by profession, currently working full time as the mother of Ella, 5, and Liam, 3. The family lives in Red Hook.
