What Is a Stroke?

A stroke happens when blood stops flowing to any part of your brain, damaging brain cells. The effects of a stroke depend on the part of the brain that was damaged and the amount of damage done.

Margaretville Hospital’s ambulance is state of the art, bringing immediate stroke care straight to the patient.

Other WMCHealth Members

HealthAlliance Hospital in Kington and Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla both provide advanced stroke care. HealthAlliance is a state-designated Primary Stroke Center and Westchester Medical Center is a state-certified Comprehensive Stroke Center, the highest level of stroke care

Achieving the Primary Stroke Center designation involves a rigorous screening process. The advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center designation indicates the medical center is capable of treating the most complex stroke cases, providing a level of care few hospitals anywhere can match.
